morning commute
inspired by a squid, and a pool.. hmmm.
i wake up, roll out of bed, drag a comb across my head.. oh wait that's the beatles' tune. hehe..
i slip on some dorky slippers to negotiate my cold tile floors all the way to the kitchen, where i heat up some water in a pot for a splash of OJ waiting to be warmed in my mug. i pour a delicious multigrain cereal in milk and heap golden raisins on top. i open the curtains, and go back to the bedroom (the only warm room in the house) until about 11 am when i decide what sort of "activity" i can find for myself to staybusy. usually a trip to the grocery store with my dorky market buggy.. or a quick trip to the internet cafe in downtown halandri.. if it's cold or i did too much walking the day before, i read or write or make mail.. or clean the house.. today is errands, tomorrow is mop the floors and LAUNDRY.. oh i know, try not to be overwhelmed... i just described my whole week in a short paragraph. next week will be different, with my mimi and dad visiting, i'm going to be an athens tourist and hostess.

Oh girl, enjoy it while you can. After the baby comes, moments to yourself will be few. Also, I am quite sure you'll be THE absolute best hostess and tour guide.
She's right, Bethany, enjoy all these quite still moments while you can. Savor the time when YOU get to decide what to do with your day, and one of the options is to just sit around. Plus, hmmm...I don't mean to worry you, but you're just a few months away from the time when mobility isn't such an easy feat. Of course, the bright side of that last month--you're very, very ready to meet the baby!
And I know you are going to be the best mom! Little Willie's a very lucky boy.
I am so jealous of you. I have 28 1 and 2 year olds in my class. My morning is nothing like yours. And all this in Houston not Greece. Can I come live with you?
by the way that previous comment was from cathy power
These ladies know whereof they speak, Beffany. That last month you will probably waddle rather than walk. And the last week or two, after the baby drops, whooooo-eeeeee!!!!!
With the "active schedule" you just described, do you ever have time for any painting, sketching, doodling or finger-painting? I just can't imagine Beth without a creative implement of some kind in her hand.
I hope your household goods arrive before you get too big and middle-heavy. Maybe they'll come when Dad is there and ya'll can make a party outta unpacking!
Jim and I love you and Ph and Willie very much. Take care of yourself.
Mom.
Bethany's Morning Commute post is a fine example of descriptive narrative in action. A crucial read for anyone seriously interested in the morning activities of a beautiful expectant mother." - Kilian Sweeney (author of Squid, a Morning Commute Blog)
