walkability score

i found this really great website that measures how walkable your neighborhood is, and how easily you could do without a car. the answer will probably not surprise you, for example, our address rates a 91/100.. meaning: "90 - 100 = Walkers' Paradise: Most errands can be accomplished on foot and many people get by without owning a car." but this is great if you're relocating.. or learning a new area.

go type in your address!

Ours is 25... we can walk to the car from the house. hehe.

Actually, the Country Place Golf Club Cafe is half a mile away, and if we really wanted (or were able) we could walk about a mile and get to a pizza place, a day care center, a drugstore, a convenience store, a new hotel, a church, and the cleaners. I think I'll keep the car.

and there's a library, a fitness center, a room full of jigsaw puzzles and a pool table up there by the golf club. what else could a senior citizen want? wink.

Our score is 31. We're fairly close to a main strip of places on Olive Street but the thing that's lacking is sidewalks. (so we always have to keep an eye out for cars when walking the dog)..

Unfortunately, work is a 25 minute commute away, not in walking distance. If that was the case I would be a skinny-minnie again :-)

That's pretty cool. However the info the system gathered for our neighborhood is at least 30 percent incorrect. The movie house has not been a movie house for years. The coffee shop is only open when they give tango lessons so not very reliable as a coffe shop. Only one restaurant showed up while there are six right on our block. The one that did show up is now closed. Still, the 75 rating for our block is pretty much what I'd give it too.

wow, boston sounds like a walker's paradise! manitou got a 66, which is not surprising since the town is tiny and walkable in 15 minutes. however, we don't have a grocery, which kinda stinks. we do, however, have a deli where you can buy bulk spices and orangina! the rest of the town consists of an arcade, chocolate shops, and t shirt vendors. great for tourists but kinda difficult in terms of meeting your daily needs. :-) of course, when we move back to houston, the score will plummet waaay down, i'm sure!
